The Deadly Sins of Employee Retention

    Head: (4.5 of 5)
    Heart: (3 of 5)
    Leadership Applicability: (4.5 of 5)

Retaining your top talent could quite possibly be the single most important factor for organizational success. The authors report that a surprisingly high number of current employees are either actively or passively seeking other jobs. They also report that up to 47% of high performers actively seek other work while at their current job. Although most organizations do attempt to retain their top talent, many of them end up making serious mistakes along the way. The authors state there are 5 Deadly Sins that organizations often commit that quickly undermine retention efforts. These are: 1) treating everyone equally, 2) one size fits all, 3) neglecting the first 90 days, 4) letting them leave, and 5) turning your back.

The authors highlight ways in which leaders can avoid the 5 Deadly Sins and offer sound advice that can be implemented into any organization. The book was intended to be easy to read and its recommendations simple to implement. It is exactly 100 pages in length and can be read in a single sitting. Don't let its size or simplicity fool you though! The information shared is quite powerful and is well worth reading. Realizing the importance of retaining your top talent is only the first step. Actually doing something about it is what makes the real difference. Buy it.
