Technology has forever changed the way we live, work, and interact with each other. People now live longer, stronger, healthier lives thanks to technology. We can also now instantly access a wealth of information from anywhere in the world, and can send documents, schedule meetings, and receive messages with the push of a button. Incredibly, our phones now take photos, shoot video, play music, and send emails. All of these technological advancements are designed to make our lives easier, but is there a downside to all of this upgrade?
Over the past 25 years, executive coach and consultant Carole Rehbock has noticed that technology both helps and hinders personal and professional relationships. She notes that although technology can be beneficial, there is a price for our addiction to "instant access". She states that, "I am seeing that there is a downside to technology and a price we pay in the quality of our communications and our relationships as we become more and more dependent on it." Her unique article explores the challenges that many people face due to a greater dependence on technology. Some examples are:
- stress, overwhelm, and information overload - lower quality communication, but increased quantity of communication - skewed work/life balance - people hiding behind technology
The insightful article enforces the notion that people continue to need to interact and connect with each other in order to establish and maintain authentic personal and professional relationships. No matter how advanced technology becomes it will not eliminate our need to have conversations. Read the full article.
