  • Friedman, Thomas L.
The Lexus and the Olive Tree
    Understanding Globalization

    Head: (4.5 of 5)
    Heart: (3 of 5)
    Leadership Applicability: (4.5 of 5)

We're going global... are you ready? Tom Friedman, foreign affairs columnist for the New York Times, sheds light on what it means to be a global leader. A "globalist" understands and applies knowledge in six dimensions: Politics, culture, national security, financial markets, technology, and environmentalism. A "globalist" is able to balance the thirst for achievement (read Lexus) while maintaining a respect for tradition (read Olive Tree).

For the short-term, buy the book and read the first chapter, "Tourist with an Attitude," and the last chapter, "This is a Way Forward." When you actually take vacation time this year, have this book with you--in many respects it reads like a good travel novel. Either way, this book is bound to inspire you to read and learn more about globalization. We are not just going global... we already are. What is your role? What is your contribution?. Buy it.
