Leadership Applicability: (5 of 5)
For the past 6 months, Mariposa Leadership consultants have been teaching and coaching on what it means to be a "fearless leader." We view Fearless Leadership as being courageous, decisive, and vulnerable. In times of crisis, we are put to the test. In Leadership, by Rudy Giuliani (Time's 2001 Person of the Year), we hear his account of September 11 and the real-time struggles he faced in the midst of what he did not know to be a global crisis. In narrative form, Giuliani exemplifies how a "fearless leader" lives. He shares how he was courageous in staying at Ground Zero despite the dangers. This gave him information first-hand and enabled him to be decisive and clear along the way. And he was vulnerable in his expressions of fear and hopefulness. In retrospect, we now know that the practices Giuliani used to lead New York City and America out of this tragic event is applicable to corporate leaders...those of you who, on a daily basis, impact the lives of your corporation's citizens. For the short-term, read the first chapter and skim the rest of the book. This will provide you with an understanding of what Fearless Leadership looks like; and moving forward, how you as a leader will want to put these concepts into your everyday practices. Buy it.
