Pull the Plug on Stress
Head: (5 of 5)
Heart: (4 of 5)
Leadership Applicability: (4.5 of 5)
Many leaders in corporations and small organizations are overwhelmed and stressed, doing the job of two people or more. While we all know it's important to keep that in check, most of us do not know how to do this. The authors do a great job of both explaining what happens to our minds and bodies when we experience stress and why their five-stage process works. The five stages are: 1.) recognize and disengage, 2.) breathe through your heart, 3.) invoke a positive feeling, 4.) ask yourself if there is a better alternative, and 5.) note the change in perspective. While the stages may seem so obvious and easy, most of us do not do this nor are we convinced that it actually works. By explaining how the body and brain work, the authors make a compelling case for why the 5 stages are effective. Every tool and technique that can make life and work less stressful is well worth your investment of time, energy and focus.
