Informal Networks The Company Behind the Chart
Head: (4.5 of 5)
Heart: (3 of 5)
Leadership Applicability: (4 of 5)
This article is one of Harvard Business Review's bestsellers. It helps readers think about how to leverage the various informal networks in a company in order to maximize your effectiveness, whether it be working better with others or effecting positive change in the company. There are 3 types of informal networks that develop from the formal structure (i.e., organizational chart). They are: 1.) the advice network, 2.) the trust network, and 3.) the communication network. Each type of network serves a different function and can be tapped for different purposes. The steps to identify your networks as explained in the articles is complicated, naturally; but the definition of the 3 types of network is a fantastic starting point even for the novice who wants to understand how best to tap the various networks. Buy it.
