  • Bazerman, Max (with Dolly Chugh)
    Decisions without Blinders

    Head: (4 of 5)
    Heart: (3 of 5)
    Leadership Applicability: (4 of 5)

This article takes a closer look at situations when blinders prevent individuals from receiving, using, and /or sharing relevant information during the decision making process. According to the authors, decision makers often times will:

    • fail to see or seek out important information
    • fail to use the information they do have because they might not see the relevence
    • fail to share information with those that need it

All three areas can greatly damage the ability of executives and leaders to make wise decisions. The authors suggest that in order to be effective, organizational leaders must become aware of their blinders (bounded awareness) and must begin to seek, use, and share relevant information during the decision making process. The authors include powerful true-to-life stories that support the existence of bounded awareness and highlight ways in which decision makers can increase their own awareness. The article is well written, clear, and extremely useful in bringing to light the importance of making decisions without blinders. Buy it.
